│ What is CLINTON? │
└───────────────────┴───────────────────────────────────────────────────────
CLINTON was inspired by the currently-available (as of November 17,
1993) Clinton Watch. Both display the correct time, with one exception
-- they run counter-clockwise. The numbers run from 11 to 1 clockwise
instead of 1 to 11, with 12 at the top. All three of the hands run
counter-clockwise!
CLINTON will run on VGA only. It is cheesy-looking and promises
more than it delivers. Hmmmmmmm.

│ How do I use CLINTON? │
└────────────────────────┴──────────────────────────────────────────────────
USAGE: CLINTON Runs clock "backwards"
CLINTON /A Sets alarm
CLINTON /B DISABLES hourly beeps
CLINTON /C Places correct digital time in lower right
(for those who went to public school and they
didn't teach you how to tell time)
CLINTON /D Places date in lower right
CLINTON /x Sets the color of the clock "rim"
CLINTON /? The help screen (also uses /HELP)
The /A switch lets you set an alarm. When prompted, enter the time
you wish the alarm to sound. The alarm runs on a 24-hour clock, where
9:00 am is 9:00, but 9:00 pm is 21:00. To find PM times, simply add 12
to the hour. The alarm time will be displayed on the left side of the
clock. When the alarm sounds, it plays "Billy Boy." The hands are
momentarily replaced with commentary, then the alarm time is removed and
the clock continues on its way.
The /B switch disables the hourly beeps. When the minute is :59 and
the second is :55, the program beeps every second with a higher-pitch
beep at the top of the hour.
The /C switch places the current system time in digital format down
in the lower right corner.
The /D switch places the current system date in the lower right hand
corner.
The /x switch lets you set the color of the outer rim of the clock.
To set the color, you need to choose a number from 0 to 15. In case you
don't know the color chart, here are your choices:
0 - Black 9 - Dark grey
1 - Blue 10 - Light blue
2 - Green 11 - Light green
3 - Cyan 12 - Light cyan
4 - Red 13 - Light red
5 - Magenta 14 - Light magenta
6 - Brown 15 - Yellow
7 - White 16 - Bright white

A keypress exits the clock at any time. If I said "any key" I'd get
some clown saying, "I can't find the ANY key." Or someone would tell
me, "I pressed SHIFT about 10,000 times, and ALT, too, but it wouldn't
exit." Okay, press a key that normally generates some sort of response
on the screen (character, ESC, function). Okay? Okay.
Why are there dots for some of the numbers? Just like our current
Administration, they can't give you all the numbers, but you're supposed
to believe them anyway. Even if you DID have all the numbers, they
wouldn't add up.
Will it keep accurate track of time? It runs off the TIME$ string
and the computer clock, so it is as accurate as your computer's clock.
For most of us, that is accurate enough. But then, as is the case with
this Administration, accuracy doesn't really count. As long as the
clock is running, who cares how accurate it is? The mere fact that it's
running should give you a warm, fuzzy feeling.
┌────────────────────────────┐
│ Why did you make CLINTON? │
└────────────────────────────┴──────────────────────────────────────────────
I went off the clock deep end recently. I've been trying to bone up
on my QuickBASIC programming and am starting to look at the way it uses
the LINE and CIRCLE commands. For you programmers, making a clock is
much easier if you use the CIRCLE command instead of trying to draw with
LINE. I got a real tremendous chuckle out of the backwards-running
Clinton watch and wanted to see if I could do the same thing on a
computer screen.

│ Guarantee │
└───────────┴───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
I wrote this program in QuickBASIC 4.5 on a 20 MHz 386 IBM PC
compatible with SVGA monitor. My guarantee is that it will probably
work on a similar setup. If it works on your computer, fine. If not, I
apologize. The only computers I can test programs on are the 386 and an
old CGA 8088 at 4.7 MHz. While this clock program did run on that old
PC, the results were weird. If it doesn't work on your computer, it's
no big deal. Erase the program. There are 30 billion programs out
there, and you won't miss this one. There are no disk calls, and at the
very worst there may be a screen write to a position not on your screen.
I can't even envision the program locking up.

└───────────────────────────────────────────────────┴───────────────────────
You've already got it, so there's not a whole lot I can do about it.
If you are one of those people who do register shareware -- and now that
the evil Reagan-Bush years are over, we all have more money, right? --
sending $10 will get you registered.

│ Are there bonuses for registering? Yes.│
└─────────────────────────────────────────┴─────────────────────────────────
As a bonus, anyone sending $10 to register CLINTON will receive the
following:
Information on how to activate the political commentary. That
feature is satirical/humorous commentary which appears at the
top of the screen and changes every few seconds. It has snide
remarks, comments, Clinton quotes, and the "Clinton Calendar"
which tells you which # day of the administration it is and how
many days are left.
How to delete the top line altogether, so you can use it as a
plain backwards clock.
Another bonus: If you include a disk (or an additional $5), I
will send you thirteen (13) BASIC and QuickBASIC clock programs
so you can try doing things like this yourself. They are not
my programs, so I am charging only for a disk and/or postage.
They are not available separately.
Okay, so it's not King Solomon's treasure. What did you expect?
This is just a clock program!
